General
What is Voxera?
Voxera is a desktop voice-input app for Windows and macOS. Press a hotkey, speak, and text is transcribed and optionally polished by an LLM, then injected into the app you’re already using—or it can replace selected text when you’re on Pro.
How is it different from other dictation apps?
Voxera focuses on a minimal floating bar, Whisper-class transcription through Voxera’s managed API, an optional custom dictionary, and voice-triggered shortcuts for power users. Pro adds proofreading, custom instructions, selection editing, and screen context hints for harder vocabulary.
Is voice instruction on selected text available in every environment?
No. Speaking to edit highlighted text is a Pro feature. On Pro, it works in most apps we support, but some code editors—including Visual Studio Code—are excluded: they often don’t expose selection and replacement to the OS in a way Voxera can use reliably. Outside those editor exceptions, Pro lets you give voice instructions on the current selection in typical productivity apps, browsers, and standard text fields.
Why does Voxera leave out “extra” features other apps include?
The design goal is one tight loop: record → transcribe → inject text where your cursor already is. Built-in editors, secondary workspaces, or unrelated product bundles would pull you away from that and grow complexity for little gain. New capabilities are added only when they clearly improve dictation or text injection. See the simplicity section on the homepage for how we think about scope.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The free plan includes core transcription with a monthly character limit and a small dictionary. Pro removes the cap and unlocks AI proofreading, richer dictionary size, custom instructions, selection replace, and screen context. Exact numbers are shown in the app and on the pricing section of the homepage.
Which platforms are supported?
Windows and macOS builds are distributed via public releases. There is no mobile app yet.
Accounts & billing
Why do I sign in with Google?
We don’t operate a separate Voxera username/password system on purpose—so you aren’t juggling yet another login to remember and recover. Instead we use Google sign-in only, which is already widely adopted and keeps account handling simple. That same identity still powers optional synced settings and lines up your Pro purchase with the same user record when you check out (including from the desktop app).
How does “Upgrade to Pro” on the website work?
You’ll be sent to Google to sign in, then redirected to our payment provider to complete payment. Your user id and email are passed so subscriptions can sync to your account via webhooks.
Can I pay monthly or yearly?
Checkout usually offers interval choices when multiple prices exist on the same product. Pick the option shown at checkout; billing details appear on your receipt and in the payment provider’s customer portal.
Troubleshooting
The hotkey conflicts with another app.
Open Settings in Voxera and change the recording hotkey / keybindings. If a browser or suite captures the same chord, adjust one side so they don’t overlap.
Transcription fails or is slow—what should I check?
Confirm you’re online: requests go over HTTPS to the Voxera API proxy. Corporate firewalls or SSL inspection can block or delay traffic—allow outbound TLS to your Worker host (same host as in the app’s proxy setting). If you’re on Free, check you haven’t hit the monthly character limit.
Where is my data stored?
Transcripts for processing go through the Voxera backend as configured in the app. History and local preferences stay on your machine unless you use account sync for settings/dictionary—review in-app privacy wording for your deployment.
